The citrus exports growth dynamic should resume in 2016, going on the forecasts of the local professional organisation ProCitrus.

The programme is reckoning on volumes of approximately 115 000 t, primarily comprising easy peelers, the country’s main export speciality. The increase should be more marked for the end-of-season varieties, which have been widely planted in recent years, than for the early ones (+10 to +13 % for W Murcott, as opposed to + 8 to + 10 % for the other varieties). The impact of the El Niño phenomenon is assumed to be limited to some delayed coloration in certain zones. The production growth trend should speed up over the coming years. The planting rate should be around 1 000 ha in 2016 and 2017 (W Murcott and Or mainly), especially thanks to orchards being set up in new zones in the north of the coastal strip (Lambayeque and Ancash provinces). Peru has approximately 7 000 ha of citrus orchards dedicated to the export sector, out of the national total of 62 000 ha.
