Contrary to the forecasts, the avocado market swelled in March. Although imports from Mediterranean sources (Spain and Israel) remained in shortfall, in particular Israeli imports which began their fall early, volumes from Chile and Mexico saw unexpected and historic rises from February, offsetting and surpassing the shortfall from the other suppliers. So the market became competitive from the beginning of the month, and prices were revised downward. However, since the Easter promotions worked well, there were no stocks recorded at the end of the month, and rates took an upturn thanks to the final Mediterranean batches and to the Chilean campaign rapidly winding down. For the green varieties, the final short batches from Israel sold at high prices.
